Partner in Mission

Becoming a Partner in Mission

Thank you for your interest in Family of Christ Lutheran Church. Here at Family of Christ we use the words "partners in mission" rather than "members." We believe that God created His church for the purpose of partnering with Him in His saving work here on earth. We also believe that God wants us to partner together with other believers so that we can accomplish His purpose for our church. Paul encourages the Philippian believers saying, "I thank my God every time I remember you...because of your partnership in the gospel." (Phil. 1:3,5)

When you agree to partner in mission with other people at Family of Christ three things happen:

  1. You begin fulfilling God’s desire for your life and His church to be a life-creating beacon in the world. Jesus said, "Let your light shine before others so they may see your good works and give glory to our Father in heaven." NLT (Matt. 5:16)
  2. You discover a place where you can use your God-given spiritual gifts for the glory of God and for the good of others. "A spiritual gift is given to each of us as a means of helping the entire church."
    NLT (I Cor. 12:7)
  3. You fulfill Jesus’ desire for you to publicly declare your faith. "If anyone acknowledges me publicly here on earth, I will openly acknowledge that person before my Father in heaven." NLT (Matt. 10:32)

Process

The process one goes through to become a partner in mission at Family of Christ involves two steps and depends upon the individual.

Step 1 – New Beginnings Class

Every new Partner in Mission at Family of Christ attends New Beginnings. It is a class
of Christian instruction consisting of basic Christian teachings plus a look at the church,
especially the mission, vision, and values of Family of Christ.

Step 2 – Be recognized at our New Partner Reception.

Once you have completed the New Beginnings Class, we want to publicly welcome you. We do this formally at a worship service and then honor you at a reception following the worship service.
